Doncaster Leopard - 6th August

We regret to announce at such a late stage of the day that tonight’s gig has been cancelled

We arrived at the venue at 3pm to set up and get everything ready for a soundcheck however the technical specification did not meet what is required. After trying for 4 hours to get things working the horrible and regretful decision to cancel the gig had to be made.

The band fully understand that people have travelled a long way and have been looking forward to tonight however we cannot compromise on sound and quality.

Again, sorry for this late announcement

Full refunds will be available

As technical manager of a venue, that’s very poor on the venues behalf. I always work months in advance to ensure technical specifications are met. I’ve seen the BC tech spec, it’s not rocket science. Very straight forward and detailed. Shame on the venue to allow this to happen and sadly affect the fans. For the band to make the decision to cancel it must have been terrible. Sympathies with all. But when it’s livelihoods and reputations, you can’t take chances.

All you people chatting shit about "do an accoustic set" 1. It would still need to go through the PA or only the people at the front would hear it. 2. They won't have rehearsed an accoustic set 3. They probably haven't even got any accoustic instruments with them 4. If you don't know what your talking about Shut the F**k up.

The sound has to be right it’s there reputation too they are a proud band and very professional about the gigs they play they will be fuming and very upset they have had to do this I’m sure. I’ve been attending their gigs for over 15 years regularly 2-3 times a year and this is the first time apart from covid that a gig has been cancelled. Oh well Donny pride here we come!!

Don’t you check these things when booking a venue rather than 3-4 hours before the gig is due to start, very amateurish I say , can’t imagine any other band eg u2, Coldplay,Muse etc leaves it so late

Big Country would not let their fans down ..the best live band and utterly professional ...

I wouldn’t mind, myself, they played our small venue, on a Thursday night in 2015 just before the venue was demolished. They are brilliant every time I’ve seen them, they are worth waiting for, and all the offended people can’t be real fans. Of course being disappointed is understandable. So less vitriol, more love for a classic band…please

For a band that love to play live and look forward to their gigs they must be devastated they can't put on a professional show for the people of Doncaster, but I am sure the band being great musicians and professionals will get the gig arranged for another date.

Surely they could have done an acoustic set?

Saw you in Cottingham a few years back and also seen you at a few Let's Rock! Had our tickets bought and hotels booked since 2019! Last year it changed back and forth from Donny Dome to the Lerpord, finally got cancelled the you announce a tour, really!!!! Re-arranged to tonight another hotel booked and paid for!! Feeling so angry, disappointed looking forward to the refund of tickets and the hotels paid for, somehow I don't think so!! 🤔 Stuart Adamson would be turning in his grave!!

If they didn't want to play the venue why did they go all the way there? I saw a quite well known band play recently at a venue that was unsuitable for the p.a. system they used, more for a small pub gig. The sound was terrible, people who hadn't seen them before said they were terrible. So this is what would have happened.

Cannot have been an easy decision.I saw them in Whitby when Scot on Bass and I think a sound engineer tested positive. They played a belting acoustic set so I know if they can put on a show they will.

Guys I absolutely sympathise with you on this. None of us ever wants to cancel a gig. It's the absolute worst feeling in the world and I know you would have done everything possible to get the show on. ✊️❤

I like the music, but I have no idea what goes into making it happen. Personally I would be cheesed off if the sound quality was duff. What a shame. Good luck for the future.

Support band seem nice

Listen to all these sound techs! If the gear isn’t up to it, the show doesn’t happen. It’s a sad but, deeply regrettable situation to be in! No band wants to cancel a gig for ANY reason, let alone cancel it because of sub-standard equipment.

Hollow words. What do other bands do to cope with poor acoustics?

Early morning rant... The delusional youth Last night Big Country had to cancel their gig at the Leopard in Doncaster because of sound issues and the technical side not being of a standard which would be acceptable to not only the band but to the paying customers. Big Country are ultra professional and would never ever let fans down but if they felt the performance wasn't 100 % then in my opinion they did the right thing to cancel. Now having said that the most distasteful thing I've seen since cancelling is comments by the support bands fans and friends. People calling Big Country 'Shite' 'C***s' etc etc. One comment never even heard any of their songs who are they. Big Country have had atleast 7 Albums out they've had top 40 hits they've played to crowds of 100000..the band have appeared on tv more than most bands could only dream about. The band have graced the same stage as the Rolling Stones Queen and even appeared on the finale of Live Aid at Wembley. But to an 'Uknown band' who have a few thousand followers on social media no records of note no tv of note no history of note they slag Big Country off. The problem with a minority of new young bands is they haven't done the ground work they haven't toured for years they haven't slept in the back of a transist van. What they have done is banged a few home made videos on Social media got a few thousand likes and their ego has taken off to a level that's laughable. In this business its nice to be humble its nice to be kind and more importantly its nice to have some bloody RESPECT for your peers... When this new wave of social media superstars have been around for 40 years and still making records and still attracting crowds then and maybe just then I'll listen to your opinion but until then leave well alone with your crude vile comments. Finally for the record the word that oozes when you either meet or mention the name Big Country is HUMBLE with a capital H

We went to see Elvis Costello earlier in year at Liverpool Philharmonic and we all wish he would’ve done the same thing as you and cancelled the gig, as the sound was terrible from the start, with problems continuing throughout the gig.

I have seen BC 5 times over the years. I've loved their music since I was a 14 year old and my big brother listened to them. I'd rather it cancelled than it sound bad like I have heard once in kendal arts centre a few years ago. My partner had never seen them so I took him along and he said the sound was dreadful and why I thought they were good was madness..i must admit that night the sound quality was poor so I have to say its best to cancelif its nit up to standard x

Why is it different to when you played there a few years ago when Mike Peters was on vocals??

Phew a few people giving the band a flaming here! We are fans aren’t we ? This does happen occasionally not great when it does but it’s life. If you travelled and are complaining try and make the most of a night in sunny Doncaster. Big Country are not a band that cancel on a regular basis in fact it’s virtually unheard of. Just think on you could be a fan of Echo and the Bunnymen like me and be subjected to inflated prices, patchy live gigs , constant temper tantrum’s and walk offs …

Sorry to hear guys. Must have been pa or desk nightmare, these things happen. The next will be ok and this venue will sort their gear.

Really feel.for you having travelled all this way to perform for us.It must have been a difficult decision to make and you are obviously true professionals to want it right for us to see and I can understand that.Hope to see you soon.Safe journey home xx

Anyone that has ever been to any of their live gigs can see the band absolutely love what they do. Would never cancel lightly.

OK. But it's your management's job to ensure the venue is fit for the band. If it isn't, sue them !!

Blended in very well with the recent Great Divide Podcast with the Wishart brothers . Would love see a wee local Bruce and Jamie gig ……

My first experience happens to be a total failure, but I never gave up cause I knew it was going to work out for me by trying continuously, fortunately I'm smiling today by getting involved with you Mrs Pamela E. Anderson

Fantastic listen. Bruce should write an autobiography.

Fantastic interview, well worth a watch.

This was a great listen. Jobson is a character, huh?

Great train robbery?🤔

See you tonight on my local high street!

Stood behind you Mr Bruce Watson in a shop in Kendal over the jubilee weekend and suddenly realised who you were. Didn’t get chance to say hello and shake your hand. Hopefully catch you live soon. It’s been a while! ( Liverpool royal court in 80s promoting The Crossing). Still maintain you were the loudest live act !
